HC Deb 01 May 1919 vol 115 c377W
Mr. GRIFFITHS

asked the President of the Board of Education whether, in the case of a teacher who volunteered for the South African War and returned to his duties as a teacher afterwards, the time thus served in the Army will count for the purposes of the Teachers' Superannuation Act?

Mr. FISHER

I have not been able to investigate the practice of the Board in this mater during the South African War, butprimâ facie the military service of such a teacher could not be counted as recognised teaching service under the Act of 1918. I should be obliged, however, if the hon. Member would send me particulars of the case which he has in mind, and I will go into the matter further.
