§ Mr. GRANTasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer how many applications are at present before the Treasury for the issue of new capital; in how many cases decisions are given per week; and if Treasury control is still desirable in such matters?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINApplications are received at the rate of 60 to 100 a day. I am informed that 70 per cent. of all the cases are dealt with within one week, a further 20 per cent. within two weeks, while only the remaining 10 per cent. take more than two weeks. As regards the last part of the question, I propose to make a statement at the close of Questions to-day.
