§ Mr. HAYDAYasked the Secretary to the Treasury whether it is on the recom- 1109W mendation of the Treasury that Civil servants who have been in receipt of civil pay during their service in the Army are not receiving the service gratuity on discharge from the Army; and, if so, will he state the reason for this discrimination?
§ Mr. BALDWINI presume that by service gratuity the hon. Member refers to that payable under Art. 1117 of the Pay Warrant. The majority of Civil servants who have been in receipt of the balance of civil pay while serving in the Army have been entitled to this gratuity from the first, and directions have now been given that it shall also be issued, to the only class of men who have hitherto been excluded from receiving it, namely, Post Office servants in receipt of full civil salary in addition to their Army pay and allowances.
