Captain HAMILTON BENNasked the Food Controller whether, in view of the heavy stocks of sugar already in the United Kingdom, amounting to over 360,000 tons, he will remove the embargo which prevents the sale of bitter oranges to the public and at the same time issue a supply of sugar, so that the making of marmalade by householders may be resumed forthwith?
§ Mr. McCURDYIt is proposed to revoke the Order prohibiting dealings in bitter oranges almost immediately. I regret, however, that the Royal Commission on the Sugar Supply are unable to make a special issue of sugar since sufficient supplies of white sugar are not available, and other sugar is not suitable for the purpose.
