HC Deb 04 March 1919 vol 113 c251W
Major BARNSTON

asked the President of the Board of Trade if Government Departments have bought timber in Cheshire and have issued an order that firewood is not to be sold or removed by the local inhabitants; and, as this firewood might have been a great boon for the families of agricultural labourers and others, he will see in the future that this practice is not permitted?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

Wood suitable for fuel from operations of the Timber Supply Department is first offered to the Local Fuel Committee, in accordance with the Fuel Wood Order, 1918. Brushwood is usually taken by the local inhabitants unless there are special reasons to the contrary. If my hon. and gallant Friend has a particular case in mind and will send me particulars, inquiries shall be made.
