asked the Home Secretary whether the order requir- ing a rear red light on bicycles is maintained in force in order to protect the cyclist from being run down by fast-travelling motor cars; and, if not, for what purpose the order is maintained?

Mr. SHORTT

The order is maintained in the interests of traffic generally to prevent collisions between cyclists and overtaking vehicles of all kinds.
