HC Deb 04 June 1919 vol 116 cc2051-2W
Mr. GRUNDY

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware that organised labour in British Columbia demands that in all contracts with the Imperial Government for the supply of timber the Fair-Wages Clause and a Clause requiring the employment of white labour shall be included; and whether he will state the policy of the Department on this matter?

Sir A. GEDDES

I have not received any representations in this matter, which appears to be one for the Government of British Columbia. The purchases of the Timber Controller abroad are made in the form customary in the timber trade, and contain no special stipulations as to labour in the country of origin.
