HC Deb 04 June 1919 vol 116 c2026W
Mr. ALFRED SHORT

asked the Food Controller whether he will state the amounts paid from the bread subsidy to Spillers and Bakers, flour millers?

Mr. ROBERTS

I do not think I am entitled to disclose information which, under the agreements with the flour millers, I have undertaken to treat as strictly confidential. I may say, however, that the datum basis of pre-war earnings on which the remuneration of millers is fixed, is the same as that adopted by the Inland Revenue authorities for the purpose of Excess Profits Duty; and further, that if this method of fixing the remuneration proves in any particular case to be unfair, either to the owner or to the Government, the right is retained under the agreement of fixing a fair standard of remuneration.
