HC Deb 04 June 1919 vol 116 c2062W
Mr. HASLAM

asked the Attorney-General whether, seeing that mortgage interest on house property may now be raised to 5 per cent., steps will be taken to enable rents to be raised to meet any increased charge for interest so caused?

Sir G. HEWART

The permissible increase of mortgage interest under the Increase of Rent and Mortgage Interest (Restriction) Act is limited to ½ per cent, per annum, the rate when so increased not to exceed 5 per cent., and this increase is practically met by the provision allowing an increase of 10 per cent, on the standard rent.
