§ Mr. PERKINSasked the Secretary of State for India whether it is proposed to include retired police officers within the scope of the recommendations as to pensions (Indian Police, Imperial branch) now under the consideration of the Government of India; and, if so, whether he will see that just and fair treatment is accorded to those officers who are already retired as well as to those whose retirement is prospective?
§ Mr. MONTAGUI have not yet received the recommendations, and, therefore, do not know how far, if at all, they will apply to officers who have already retired. I will bear in mind the suggestion made in the latter part of the question.
Sir J. D. REESasked the Secretary of State for India whether, in the Indian police, civil furlough pay is based on the average salary of the last three years; and whether the rate is, therefore, unaffected by the recent alterations in scale of pay of the Indian police, so that an officer drawing Rs.1,250 a month on duty only receives Rs.409 per month on furlough?
§ Mr. MONTAGUThe answer to the first portion of the hon. Member's question is in the affirmative. This is the practically universal rule of the Civil Services in India. Alterations in the scale of duty pay will affect furlough allowances gradually as they enter into the computation of average salary.
