§ Mr. FOREMANasked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the large amount 2134W of spurious money in circulation, any-special steps are being taken to protect the public?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINAssuming the question to refer to coin and legal tender paper currency, I may say that there is no evidence whatever to suggest that there is a large amount of counterfeit coin or forged paper currency in circulation. Such forgeries as have come to light are almost exclusively of the earlier issues of currency notes which have now almost entirely been withdrawn from circulation, and I propose at an early date to recall the remainder of the issues.
