Mr. A. T. DAVIESasked the President of the Board of Trade what measures are being taken to inform British traders, merchants, and manufacturers about their position as to trading in Germany now that Peace has been signed; and whether he is now in a position to indicate the date 944W on which the general trade policy of the Government may be announced in this House?
§ Mr. BRIDGEMANAn announcement was made in the newspapers on 14th July to the effect that a general licence had been issued by the Board of Trade authorising the resumption of trade with Germany. There are now no special restrictions on exportation to Germany, but licences in respect of goods subject to prohibitions of importation (other than general licences) are not available for the importation of German goods. I am not yet in a position to announce the general trade policy of the Government.
