§ Mr. SITCHasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he is aware that many cases of profiteering in the liquor trade have recently been brought to public notice, and that much exasperation is felt on this subject in industrial districts; and, if so, what steps does he propose to take to prevent further profiteering in this trade and to divert profits on drink into the public Exchequer?
§ Mr. McCURDYI have been asked to reply. I am aware that there have recently been a number of proved infringements of the Orders restricting the price of intoxicants, and I have no reason to believe that the penalties imposed will fail to operate as an adequate deterrent.
