HC Deb 04 July 1919 vol 117 cc1275-6W
Mr. TYSON WILSON

asked the Food Controller if he will give a list of the articles of food which have been so reduced in price that the cost of living has, in an ordinary Household, been reduced by 4s. 9d.per week?

Mr. ROBERTS

A statement explaining the basis upon which the reduction of 4s. 9d. per week since the Armistice is computed has recently been published in the Press, and I am sending the hon.

Member a copy. As therein explained, this reduction refers to the cost of food to an average working-class family, assuming that the consumption has remained fairly constant. Changes in the price of articles other than food have not been brought into the calculation. The main foods showing a decline in price since the Armistice are meat, milk, eggs, fish, and cheese.
