§ Mr. HAYDAYasked the President of the Local Government Board whether he is aware that the dirty conditions of the milk now being supplied to the people of Nottingham is causing concern; whether he has received any complaints on the matter; and whether any action can be taken to remedy this evil?
§ Dr. ADDISONThe answer to the first two parts of the question is in the affirmative. Under existing Regulations, it is provided that a purveyor "shall not cause or suffer any cow belonging to him or under his care or control to be milked for the purpose of obtaining milk for sale:
I have drawn the attention of the Nottingham Corporation to these provisions, and suggested that they should communicate with the sanitary authority of the district or districts from which the dirty milk comes.
- (a) Unless, at the time of milking, the udder and teats of such cow are thoroughly clean; and
- (b) Unless the hands of the person milking such cow also are thoroughly clean and free from all infection and contamination.
I may add that further Regulations will be issued under the Milk and Dairies (Consolidation) Act, 1915,with a view to more effectively preventing the sale of unclean milk.
