HC Deb 20 February 1919 vol 112 c1205W
Major BLAIR

asked the Postmaster-General if he is aware of the inconvenience caused to the business public by the delay and mistakes in the delivery of letters; and, if so, if he will take steps so as to be able to trace any irregularity in delivery by having letters stamped, as in pre-war days, at the office of destination?

Mr. ILLINGWORTH

I regret that inconvenience is sometimes caused through delay of letters in the post or through mistakes in delivery. The suspension at many offices of the practice of stamping letters at the office of destination was in force before the War; it accelerates their delivery and has not materially increased the difficulty of fixing responsibility for irregularities.
