Mr. T. WILSONasked the President of the Board of Trade whether he can hold out any hope of an early reduction of the railway fares to the pre-war rate; and, if not, will he consider the possibility of making some arrangements whereby persons who are compelled to travel for business reasons shall be entitled, on making a declaration to that effect, to travel at the pre-war rates?
§ Mr. BRIDGEMANAs stated on Thursday last in reply to the hon. and gallant Member for the Finchley Division of Middlesex, I regret that I can hold out no hope of an early reduction in railway fares, and I fear that it would not be practicable to make an exception in favour of persons who declare that they are travelling for business purposes.
