HC Deb 15 December 1919 vol 123 c81W
Mr. J. A. PARKINSON

asked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that the Regals Shirt Manufacturing Company, Warrington, refuse to recognise the trade union of which its workpeople are members and dismissed three girls at a moment's notice on account of their activity in their trade union, and that, as a consequence, 110 workpeople have been on strike for nearly five weeks; and that the permanent officials of this union, the United Garment Workers' Union, have visited the works to interview the manager and the managing director, who have refused to meet them; and whether he will bring pressure to bear upon this company either to grant recognition to the union or meet its permanent officials to discuss the matter?

Sir R. HORNE

I am aware of the dispute mentioned, and my Department is in touch with both parties. The union has requested arbitration, and has been asked to supply the exact terms of reference. The views of the company are being ascertained. I will communicate with the hon. Member when further progress has been made.
