§ Major COLFOXasked the Minister of Food when it is proposed to pay for the milk commandeered during the recent railway strike; and whether his attention has been called to the case of Mr. F. E. Ware, of Marriott's Farm, Halstock, Dorset, whose account for nearly £500 is still unpaid in spite of repeated applications for payment?
Mr. ROBERTSAbout four-fifths of the accounts in respect of milk requisitioned during the railway strike have been paid; the remainder are being dealt with as quickly as possible. As regards the second part of the question, I am informed that the Ministry has received no account from Mr. Ware. A letter has been written to him requesting that he will send his account forward to the branch of the Ministry concerned.
§ Lord H. CAVENDISH - BENTINCKasked the Minister of Food whether he is aware that the Nottingham Food Control Committee have, after careful investigation come to the conclusion that the price of milk paid to the producer could, without any unfairness to the producer, be reduced to 2s. 8d. a gallon; and whether the Government will take immediate steps to reduce the price of milk to this amount?
Mr. ROBERTSThe answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. As regards the second part, I would refer the Noble Lord to the answer given yesterday to the hon. Member for West Nottingham.
