HC Deb 11 December 1919 vol 122 c1666W
Mr. FORREST

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs of he can make any statement as to the future of the Bagdad Railway and as to railway plans in opening up Mesopotamia?

Mr. C. HARMSWORTH

No statement can be made at present. The future of the Bagdad Railway is intimately connected with the fulfilment of obligations entered into by the German Government in the Treaty of Peace, and is dependent on arrangements which will have to be made in the terms of the proposed Treaty of Peace with Turkey, regarding the disposal and administration of that railway. In regard to the second part of the question certain lines of railway have been built in Mesopotamia to meet military requirements, and their extension is now under consideration.
