HC Deb 04 December 1919 vol 122 cc634-5W
Captain BOWYER

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of the position now existing in the urban district of Wolverton as regards coal supplies whether he realises that the shortage of the 1919 delivery is 108 tons 16 cwt. below the 1917 delivery; whether he is aware that since the recent visit of the inspector the Wolverton Industrial and Provident Society has only had 55 tons wherewith to supply 1,300 registered customers, and that no emergency coal has arrived as promised by the Coal Controller; and whether, in view of the increased discomfort and unrest, he will take instant steps to remedy this crisis?

Sir H. GREENWOOD

I am aware of the circumstances to which the hon. and gallant Member calls attention. The shortage of supplies of coal in the urban district of Wolverton is mainly due to inadequate rail transport facilities, and I am informed that steps have been taken to give relief. Eight trucks of coal were delivered specially yesterday.
