HC Deb 04 December 1919 vol 122 c624W
Colonel BURN

asked the First Lord of the Admiralty why Class 1 warrant officers, Royal Marines, are paid less war gratuity than Class 1 warrant officers of the Royal Navy; and whether paragraph 62483a, naval officers' pay, retired pay, and allowances improved rate, expressly states that Royal Marine warrant officers, Class 1, except. schoolmasters, will be placed on the same scale of pay as naval warrant officers of the non-mechanical branch.

Dr. MACNAMARA

The war gratuities of warrant officers, Class 1, like those of all other officers of the Royal Marines, were fixed on the same basis as the war gratuities of officers of corresponding rank in the Army. It was definitely laid down when the new scales of pay were introduced that war gratuities would not be affected by the new scales. The paragraph of the Admiralty Order quoted by my hon. and gallant Friend relates solely to the pay of Marine warrant officers, Class 1, which, as he is no doubt aware, has effect from the 1st February last.
