HC Deb 04 December 1919 vol 122 c599W
Major M'LEAN

asked the Minister of Food why it is necessary to fix the price of milk in milk-producing districts at 1s. a quart when 9d. gives a reasonable profit to the farmer?

Mr. ROBERTS

The hon. and gallant Member is no doubt aware that the milk prices fixed by the Ministry of Food are maximum and not fixed prices. In no district mainly supplied by producer-retailers has the maximum retail price of 1s. per quart been permitted.
