§ Sir A. WARRENasked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Board of Agriculture whether, having regard to the probable shortage of food in this country in the near future, due to the world shortage, he will take steps to cause more land to be placed under cultivation at once, to encourage stock breeding, and to restrict the killing of young stock?
Sir A. BOSCAWENAs regards the first part of the question, I should like to inform my hon. and gallant Friend that the policy of the Board is to secure such conditions for the cultivators of the land as will encourage them to maintain the maximum acreage under crop, and will also justify the Board in applying pressure to such farmers as neglect their opportunities of turning the land to productive use. As regards the latter part, I would refer him to the answer I gave on the 24th ult. to the hon. and gallant Member for Abingdon.
