HC Deb 02 December 1919 vol 122 cc236-7W
Sir H. HARRIS

asked the Prime Minister whether His Majesty's Govern- ment are refusing to allow British civilians to receive decorations from the French Government for services rendered during the War?

Sir H. GREENWOOD

As a general rule there is no objection to the bestowal of decorations upon British subjects by the heads of Allied States for war services rendered prior to the signing of the Peace Treaty with Germany, and it is only in exceptional cases that permission for the wearing of such decorations cannot be granted, owing to the existence of special rules. If the hon. Member has in mind any particular instance in which permission has been withheld, I shall be glad to ascertain and inform him of the reasons for the decision.
