HC Deb 02 December 1919 vol 122 cc248-9W
Mr. A. DAVIES (Clitheroe)

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Munitions whether he has received a Resolution from the Carlisle Trade Council protesting against the waste of the valuable plant now lying idle in the Gretna factory, pointing out that the factory possesses admirable facilities for the repair of railway plant, etc., and urging that an inquiry be made for the purpose of ascertaining how the splendidly equipped electric power station could be utilised to develop industry in the district; whether he is aware that at present there are over 1,500 unemployed workers in Carlisle; and whether he proposes to arrange for the utilisation of this factory, in view of the fact that increased production is necessary in the national interest, and thus at the same time provide useful employment for many people at present lacking the means of livelihood?

Mr. KELLAWAY
