HC Deb 02 December 1919 vol 122 cc252-3W
Mr. SITCH

asked the Home Secretary if it is proposed to issue Government sanction for the erection in the Midlands, at an estimated cost of£14,000,000, of a great electric power station, designed to serve the counties of Stafford, Leicester, Nottingham, and Derby; whether such undertaking will be in any sense under direct public ownership and control; and whether, before any sanction is given to the proposal, he will publish the terms on which such sanction will be based?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

I have been asked to reply. I understand that the question of re-organising the supply of electricity in this district has been under consideration by the interests concerned, but no application for Government sanction in any form has been made. The promotion of any scheme that may be proceeded with will be subject to the provisions of the Electricity (Supply) Bill, if passed, which include full provisions for inquiry and publication.
