HC Deb 02 December 1919 vol 122 c241W
Mr. T. W. BROWN

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland if he is aware that the Lord Chancellor for Ireland has stated, regarding the Committee of Inquiry into Irish County Court and Local Registration of Title Matters, that he is willing but that only the Executive has power to supplement the terms of reference to the said Committee so as to include within the scope of the inquiry the remuneration, duties, and conditions of employment of the subordinate staffs in the offices of the Clerks of the Crown and Peace and local registrars of title; and will he give instructions to have the existing terms of reference amended or supplemented in this respect and thus give the Irish County Court assistants the same opportunity to state their case that has already been given to English County Court assistants?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. I regret it is now too late to have the existing terms of reference amended, as the terms have been settled, and the Committee appointed has already held a sitting and arranged its programme.
