§ Mr. MACQUISTENasked the Secretary to the Treasury whether he is aware that distinguished university graduates holding first-class honours degrees who have served throughout the War in the Army are asked to sit for elementary examinations on subjects of their early school days as a condition of entry to Class I. of the Civil Service; and whether he can see his way to accept the possession of an honours degree as sufficient educational test?
§ Mr. BALDWINI cannot accept my hon. Friend's description of the qualifying examination for Class I. posts as entirely accurate. The performances of candidates at this examination are found by the Civil Service Commission to be of assistance to their Selection Board, and I see no sufficient reason to exempt any candidates from this requirement.
