§ Mr. CAMPBELLasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether, considering the great increase that has taken place in recent years in the cost of maintaining the Metropolitan Police, an increase which has been met entirely out of the rates, he will be prepared to contribute a large sum to the cost and divide it equally between the Exchequer and the ratepayers?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINA sum of £5,875,000 has been voted to provide additional grants to police authorities in England and Wales during the current financial year, and I am not prepared to recommend any further subsidy.
