§ Mr. GILBERTasked the Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether alien enemies who have been interned during the War and who have now been released are entitled to make application for naturalisation in this country, if they have lived here for the qualifying period before the War and are able to secure the necessary householders for sponsors, or has any Regulation or Order been made that these people are not to be given British naturalisation papers?
§ Mr. SHORTTMy right hon. Friend has asked me to reply to this question. I must refer the hon. Member to the provisions of the British Nationality and Status of Aliens Act, 1918, which, with certain exceptions, prohibit until the end of a period of ten years after the end of the War the naturalisation of any subject of a country with which this country was at war in August of last year.
