§ Colonel BURDONasked the President of the Board of Trade what was the percentage of absenteeism among coal-miners in each of the years 1910 to 1918?
§ Sir A. GEDDESIt is regretted that the figures of absenteeism among coal mines are not available prior to the year 1913. The figures for the years 1913 to 1918 are shown in Table 1 of the Appendices to the recently issued White Paper on the subject of the increase in the price of coal by 6s. per ton, which has been circulated to all hon. Members.
The figures are as follows:
1913 (six months) 10.7 1914 … … … 10.3 1915 … … … 9.9 1916 … … … 9.7 1917 … … … 8.9 1918 … … … 11.0 The increased loss of attendance in 1918 was partly due to the influenza epidemic.
