§ Mr. WILLIAM NICHOLSONasked the Food Controller whether he is aware that many agricultural labourers in Hampshire have been in the habit of brewing their own beer; whether he is aware that at the present time it is impossible for them to obtain the necessary malt; and whether he will take immediate steps to arrange that they may purchase the malt they require?
§ Mr. McCURDYAccording to the Food Controller's information private brewing by agricultural labourers in Hampshire has never been large in comparison with other counties. Labourers in Hampshire have, however, received their proportion, having regard to the applications made, of the special supplies of malt allotted for this purpose. No special allowances for 2909W 1919 are at present available. As the hon. Member will probably be aware, the Food Controller is now awaiting the decision of the Cabinet as to the future policy to be adopted in this matter.
