Sir L. HARMSWORTHasked the Secretary of State for War if he will endeavour to secure for soldiers in the Canadian and American Armies similar opportunities to visit relatives in this country to those he has secured for members of the Australian Imperial Force and New Zealand and South African Forces?
§ Mr. CHURCHILLThis is not a matter for the War Office, but would be a matter for the consideration of the Canadian and American authorities in this country. At the present time we are bringing 150 Americans daily on leave to this country and 7,000 Canadians a week, who have ample time to visit their relatives before they finally embark for Canada. In the case of the Americans, I do not know whether the American authorities could arrange to give preference for leave to England to men who have relatives in this country. The British Army authorities naturally are not in a position to do so.
