Colonel THORNEasked the Food Controller if he can state the amount of profit that the Wheat Commissioners are making upon every sack of flour which the biscuit makers in this country are purchasing through them, without in any way taking into account the 36s. per sack Licence Duty, and if he will take action in the matter?
2517W
§ Mr. G. ROBERTSIf the Licence Duty of 36s. per sack payable by wholesale biscuit manufacturers is not taken into account there would be no profit made on the sale of flour to biscuit makers by the Wheat Commission, as suggested by the hon. Member, but a substantial loss. The question whether any reduction can now be made in the amount of the Licence Duty is under review.
