HC Deb 11 April 1919 vol 114 cc2399-400W
Mr. PERCY

asked the Food Controller whether, in view of the growing feeling that exists, both on the part of sea fishers and merchants, against any further control in respect of any kind of sea fish, he will be prepared to withdraw all such control immediately after Lent or at an early date thereafter?

Mr. McCURDY

Controlled prices have already been suspended so far as most kinds of fish are concerned; but, in the interests of the consumer, I consider that control is still required in the case of certain varieties until it is clear that supplies are sufficient to prevent an undue rise in prices. I hope that the date when the fishing industry will be completely freed from control is now not far distant.
