Colonel THORNEasked the Minister of Labour if he can state the date when the Draft Special Order was made, in pursuance of Section 1 of the Trade Boards Acts, with respect to the rope, twine, and net trade; if he is aware that the trade union members are not in favour of a trade board being applied to the rope, twine, and net trade; and if he will take any action in the matter?
§ Sir R. HORNENotice of my intention to make a Special Order applying the Trade Boards Acts to the rope, twine, and net trade was published on 28th February. Organisation on the part of the workpeople is of recent growth, and is still very incomplete. All the available evidence indicates that those who are members of trade unions welcome the proposed establishment of a trade board, and, as the hon. Member is aware, the recent Industrial Conference endorsed the Government's policy of establishing trade boards in all badly organised trades.
