HC Deb 03 April 1919 vol 114 cc1435-6W
Major GLYN

asked the Secretary for Scotland whether the Local Government Board in Scotland have yet decided upon the professional fees to be paid to those architects serving on the panels in Soot-land to consult with local authorities in regard to housing and town planning; and whether he is aware that the difficulty experienced by various local authorities in carrying out the procedure for submitting schemes for the approval of the Local Government Board in Scotland is greatly due to the complications connected with the appointment of architects by the local authorities before the proposed schemes have received official approval?

Mr. MUNRO

The amount of architects' fees that will be allowed as a charge against housing schemes is receiving consideration by the Board. The Institute of Scottish Architects has issued a scale of fees, and the Board have invited the institute to confer in the matter with a view to an authoritative pronouncement being made. This invitation has been accepted. Meantime local authorities may make their arrangements as to the terms of architects' remuneration, and the Board are prepared to indicate in individual cases whether these arrangements are acceptable. I am not aware of any complications having arisen in connection with the appointment of architects.
