§ Mr. DEVLINasked the Minister of Labour whether he is aware that in Ireland a great deal of unemployment has-been caused by the cessation of the War; whether the State unemployment donation is given only to a section of the workers who are on a very limited list of trades-scheduled by the Lord Lieutenant; whether large numbers of other workers, men and women, who are genuinely out of work, are refused the donation; and whether, in view of the great privations these people are suffering, he will extend the list of occupations to which the out-of-work Grant is to apply?
§ Sir R. HORNEThe out-of-work donation scheme for civilian workers in Ireland applies under certain conditions to workpeople insured under the National Insurance (Unemployment) Acts, and to those-employed in other trades which are certified by the Lord Lieutenant as trades in which a substantial amount of unemploy- 1403W ment has been directly caused by the cessation of hostilities. The Lord Lieutenant has already certified the linen and cotton trade, and the question of certifying other trades is under consideration.
