Savory, No. 17834. 3rd Battalion Grenadier Guards, British Expeditionary Force, France, after being wounded seven times, was granted leave on 28th November last and due to report on 12th December last; whether he was granted an extension of leave on 11th December on the ground of illness, and ordered to send a doctor's certificate and his pass to the commanding officer, London district; if these were sent on 13th December; whether from the last date to 20th March, in spite of seven letters being written for a pass, no reply was received; if when he returned he was put under open arrest and sentenced to twenty-eight days' detention with loss of pay; and whether he will at once cancel this punishment, as Savory's absence has been solely 1412W caused by the carelessness of officials who mislaid his certificate and pass, and who sought to cover their fault by neglecting to answer Savory's letters?
