HC Deb 03 April 1919 vol 114 c1427W
Mr. HANCOCK

asked the President of the Local Government Board whether he can give the names of the candidates at the recent General Election who failed to obtain one-eighth of the votes recorded in the constituency they contested, and also the names of these constituencies?

Mr. BALDWIN

My right hon. Friend has asked me to reply to this question. The names of the constituencies and candidates are as follow, but as regards the latter there may be some errors, as in all cases full particulars have not yet been received at the Treasury from returning officers. It should be noted that, owing to the operation of Sub-section (2) and Section 27 of the Representation of the People Act, 1918, a candidate for a two-membered constituency does not necessarily forfeit his deposit, though he may have failed to obtain one-eighth of the votes recorded.
