HC Deb 02 April 1919 vol 114 c1219W
Mr. WASON

asked the Secretary to the Admiralty if he has received most urgent representations from the Convener of the county of Shetland and also from the acting Provost of Lerwick that, owing to the action of the Admiralty in requisitioning the "St. Ninian," the transport service between Shetland and the mainland is likely to be reduced to one steamer a week, and that the whole condition of the islands is seriously endangered?

Dr. MACNAMARA

Yes, Sir! And, as I have already informed my hon. Friend by letter, the only solution, so far as we are concerned, would be for the Admiralty to carry on, by Admiralty craft, the existing service which these vessels perform. I have asked whether this could be done, but am advised by the naval authorities that it is not practicable.
