HC Deb 21 October 1918 vol 110 c450W
Mr. BYRNE

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he will take steps to secure Home service for war-worn soldiers; if he is aware that several cases have been brought to the notice of the hon. Member for the Harbour Division of Dublin where soldiers in Irish regiments were sent to the front-line trenches at the outbreak of the War, received no leave, and are now serving in the front line; and if he will see that justice is done to these men?

Mr. MACPHERSON

As far as the available reserves of man-power permit, war-worn soldiers have for a consider able time past been granted periods of Home service. As regards the second part of the question, I am not aware of any cases where men have served in frontline trenches continuously since the outbreak of war and have received no leave. If my hon. Friend will furnish details of any cases which he has in mind they will be sympathetically considered.
