HC Deb 21 October 1918 vol 110 cc455-6W
Sir W. PEACE

asked the Under-Secretary of State to the Air Ministry if he is aware of the dissatisfaction on the part of the probationary officers, Women's Royal Air Force, at the conduct of the course at Roper Hall, Eltham, beginning 27th August and ending 11th September; and if he will give the numbers, respectively, of acceptances and rejections out of 175 probationary officers attending this course?

Major BAIRD

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The number of candidates attending the probationary course for officers of the Women's Royal Air Force between the dates mentioned was 170. Of these fifty-one were accepted, 112 were rejected, and seven withdrew at their own request. I am informed that all the rejected candidates who have asked for reconsideration of their cases have since been given the opportunity of appearing before an independent selection board, and that as a result eleven have been interviewed, of whom four have been accepted and seven rejected.
