HC Deb 21 October 1918 vol 110 c454W
Mr. TILLETT

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War (l) if he can state, approximately, the number of British prisoners of war who have died from a lack of food and from medical negligence; and (2) if he will give the comparative mortality and sickness rates of British and German prisoners, respectively?

Mr. J. HOPE

In answer to this and to No. 31, I regret that it is impossible to give even an approximate estimate which could be relied upon. There can, how ever, unhappily be little doubt that the rates of sickness and mortality are much higher among British prisoners of war than Germans.
