Mr. PONSONBYasked the Secretary for Scotland what Department is responsible for neglecting to provide suitable school accommodation in the Rosyth district; and whether immediate steps will be taken by the Scottish Education Department for the erection of permanent school buildings?
§ Mr. MUNROThe provision of school accommodation in any district rests with the local school board and not with any Government Department. The difficulty of obtaining labour and material at the present time stands in the way of erecting further permanent accommodation at Rosyth. The Department have represented to the Admiralty that the latter might in the exceptional circumstances supply and equip temporary accommodation such as would meet the requirements of the locality until the War is over, and I understand that action is being taken in the matter.
