HC Deb 14 November 1918 vol 110 cc2903-4W
Colonel WEIGALL

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War whether he is aware that two qualified medical men gave up their practices in 1916, one joining the Royal Army Medical Corps with a temporary commission as captain, the other joining the Territorial Forces as captain, both are now wounded and in the same hospital in this country, the former receiving 24s. per diem and the latter 15s. 6d.; and what is the reason that can be given for this discrepancy?

Mr. FORSTER

The officer described as serving with a temporary commission in the Royal Army Medical Corps is presumably an officer serving under the Civil contract, which differs from the Territorial or Regular officer's terms of service in many ways, affecting allowances and terminal gratuities as well as pay. The conditions must be looked at as a whole.
