HARMSWORTHasked the Secretary for Scotland whether, in view of the fact that a Committee has been appointed at the instigation of the Fuel Research Board to inquire into the 2564W utilisation of the peat deposits of Ireland, he could see his way to adopt a similar course regarding Scottish peat deposits?
§ Mr. HERBERT FISHERMy right hon. Friend has asked me, as Vice-Chairman of the Committee of the Privy Council for Scientific and Industrial Research, to answer this question. It is hoped that the results of the inquiry which is being conducted into the utilisation of the peat deposits of Ireland will be applicable in their technical aspects to Scottish and other peat deposits. As at present advised, I do not think that there would be any advantage in duplicating the present inquiry.
