asked the Postmaster-General whether he is aware that a telegram handed in by Mr. D. O'Donnell, Derrybeg, county Donegal, addressed to Mr. J. Peoples, Downings, failed in transmission between two offices through which it should have passed and that this failure has resulted in serious loss to the sender; and whether, in the circumstances, he is prepared to offer any compensation to him?

I am making inquiry in Ireland about this telegram, and I will acquaint my hon. Friend with the result; but I would point out that, as stated on the back of the telegram forms on which all telegrams are handed in, the Post Office is not liable for any loss which may be incurred on account of any default in the transmission of a telegram.
