HC Deb 04 November 1918 vol 110 c1810W
General CROFT

asked the Under-Secretary of State for War if he will state whether an Order has been issued that officers on the higher rate of consolidated pay, i.e., practically all staff officers, are not to receive the billeting allowance they previously received; and if he is aware that, owing to the increased cost of living, this Order inflicts hardship on the officers referred to?

Mr. FORSTER

There is no change. Officers on consolidated pay are not entitled to be billeted save in very exceptional circumstances. The hon. and gallant Member is presumably referring to Army Council Instruction 375 of 1918. This was issued in April last for the purpose of removing any possible misconceptions and explains the position. I shall be happy to send him a copy if he has not seen it.
